Indie folk singer-songwriter Lucy Rose will be headlining #ATS17 on Sunday 10th September on The Park Stage. Both her albums, 2012’s Like I Used To, and 2015’S Work It Out, have charted within the Top 20 on the Official UK Albums Chart. With new things on the horizon, we chatted to Lucy about her new album Something’s Changing…
You’re releasing your third album Something’s Changing on 14th July, what can you tell us about that?
Lucy: I finished the record in February and it was a really wonderful experience making it. It took about 17 days in total and lots of it was recorded in one take. I really wanted it to sound like a band playing in a room, nothing overly produced but a natural sounding record.
You’re also releasing on a documentary of the same name where your fans planned and booked your shows, what was that experience like and how did you come up with that idea?
L: I think [it was] one of the greatest experiences of my life and I’m so happy that we managed to captured some moments of the journey. The idea just came from people messaging me asking me to come play their town’s and cities, and I felt like it was time [that] I went and said thank you to them for their support. Pretty simple idea, I should have done it sooner really.
You grew up in South West Surrey, what’s your favourite thing about your home county?
L: I was born in Surrey but left when I was three so my memories are pretty faded. I spent the rest of my childhood in Warwickshire in the countryside, lots of tree climbing and fishing. I miss lots of things but I think I miss the air the most.
What are you looking forward to most about playing Always The Sun Festival 2017?
L: The unknown, I’ve never been before so I’m excited to see what the vibe is and the other artists playing, and it’s in Surrey so what more!
